Makeup Has No Rules

Love has no rules - and neither does expression. And with makeup being the perfect medium to express every version of ourselves, there’s no better time to make our own rules. Using liquid lipstick as eyeliner, swiping glitter onto your brows, or repurposing eyeshadow as blush? Pull out your makeup tools, this is your sign to let your imagination run wild. And we have just the makeup inspiration to get you in the mood.

How does makeup help you express yourself?

Makeup is our ultimate act of rebellion - no matter how big or small. It’s the medium we use on our face, which we see as the perfect canvas for our very own works of art. Putting self-expression at the heart of even the tiniest kitten flick, experimental serves us more than just looking bold and beautiful: it’s a way to express all our moods, for every occasion. And that’s why we love seeing our Sephora UK family letting their imaginations run wild.

Breaking all the rules

We love creative makeup ideas that don’t just bend one rule, but all of them. Enter Emelia, who’s tried eyeshadow as highlighter, lip liner as eyeliner, and setting powder as bronzer - all in one look. Did we say iconic?

Step one: Prime and apply your base the way you love most, then start on your eyes with bareMinerals Mineralist Lip Liner in Spice, lining your waterline and creating a cat-eye flick.
Step two: Blend up to your lid for a smokey effect, and finish with your favourite shimmer eyeshadow and ultra-black mascara.
Step three: For a holiday glow, try Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in a deeper shade as a bronzer.
Step four: Take a shimmer shade from Sephora Collection Pocket Palette in Noon Light, sweeping across your cheek and brow bones.

Dare to disco

Blue is the moment, blue is the mood - especially when paired with purple. One of our favourite creative eye makeup looks, find out how to recreate at home:

Step one: Apply the purple matte shade from Huda Beauty Color Block Obsessions across the lid. Don’t be afraid to pack it on.
Step two: Pack the shimmer purple shade over the top, blending out up to your brow bone.
Step three: Use Sephora Collection’s 12H Colorful Contour Eye Pencil in My Boyfriend’s Jeans.
Step four: Finish with a swipe (or few) of Benefit Badgal Bang in Blue.

Gloss glow

Gloss isn’t just for your lips. And, with this ultra-dewy look, Victoria proves you can use it on everything - from your brow bone to a cheek highlight. And the blush? None other than one of Charlotte Tilbury’s iconic lipsticks.

Step one: After applying and setting your complexion, dab Hot Lips 2 Dancefloor Princess onto your fingers, before patting onto the apples of your cheeks.
Step two: Then, take a clean angled brush and sweep Sephora Collection Glossed in Pure effect across your cheek bones and your brow bones.
Step three: Our top tip? Apply under natural light to see where on your face catches the light best.

Neon brights

Who said lipstick was just for lips? Not us. When it comes to creative makeup looks, we mean it when we say rules don’t apply. For Jasmine’s look, she’s taken liquid lipstick to her lids to create a pink cat-eye flick we love to love.

Step one: Create a base for your eyes with concealer, before setting with your favourite baking powder.
Step two: Take an angled brush and dip into Sephora Collection’s Cream Lip Stain in Sunrise Pink, just above the waterline.
Step three: Above this base flick, take a neon liner to layer them up - going as extreme as you like. Just like Jasmine, feel free to add some doodles for extra flair.
Step four: Apply mascara to your top lashes, and use a liquid liner like Sephora Collection Intense Ink Waterproof Liquid Liner in Satin Dusty Rose to create a colourful effect on your lower lashes.
